Sanctuary Cove Marine Village
Masthead Way, on the Coomera River. A marina village of restaurants, bars and shops built around one of Australia's best-known marinas, with a pontoon and berths that make arriving by boat completely routine.
Rivers & Co
The marina's headline dining room, on the site of the long-loved Red's Kitchen & Bar. Premium casual — steaks, local seafood, a big waterfront terrace — and the venue most groups now book when they come up the river for dinner.
The Fish Cafe
The village's enduring seafood institution: unfussy, generous, right on the water. This is the lunch you book when the plan is "boat up, eat, boat back" and nothing more complicated than that.
The village strip
Cafes, a bakery, bars and a pub along Masthead Way, all inside a two-minute walk of the marina. Handy when a group cannot agree — land once, everyone finds their own table.
Hope Harbour Marina
Santa Barbara Road, Hope Island. Quieter than Sanctuary Cove, deep water, and a marina precinct with waterfront food and a genuinely lovely late-afternoon aspect. Also the most convenient jumping-off point for South Stradbroke.
Jacobs Well Marina & Tavern
The top of the Broadwater, and the classic northern destination run. A tavern on the marina, pelicans on the ramp, prawn trawlers coming and going. It is a forty-minute trip from Main Beach and a much shorter one from Hope Harbour, and the boat ride is half the reason to go.
South Stradbroke Island: Tipplers and Couran Cove
Water access only — there is no road to the island.
- Tipplers Cafe — jetty, beach, pines, kayaks, cold drinks and a menu that does not need to try hard. The best casual day out on the Broadwater.
- Couran Cove Resort Marina — the resort side of the island, with marina landing and a longer stay if you want it.
Both are half-day trips: drop-off in the late morning, pick-up mid-afternoon, nothing in between except sand.
Paradise Point and Runaway Bay
- Paradise Point Parklands Jetty — the Esplanade cafe strip is right there, and it is the northern Broadwater's most reliable casual dinner.
- Runaway Bay Marina — Bayview Street, with marina dining and easy access to the canal network.
- Hollywood Showboat berth — Paradise Point, if you want to pair a water taxi arrival with a dining cruise.

Planning the trip
- Reserve the table first and say you are arriving by boat — marina staff will point your skipper to the right berth.
- Pick the closest departure point. From a Hope Island canal home, Sanctuary Cove is ten minutes. From Surfers, it is a proper river run — lovely, but budget the time both ways.
- Book the return leg with the drop-off. Cheaper than paying a boat to wait, and there is a 15-minute grace window before waiting time applies at $5 per minute.
- Mind the river at night. The Coomera is well marked and local skippers run it constantly, but it is dark, cool and unlit outside the channels — bring a jacket.
- Declare oversized gear. One suitcase plus a hand bag per person is free; eskies, boards and bikes are $25 each so the right boat is sent.
Weather, tide and refunds
The northern Broadwater is shallow in places and tide matters more here than it does at Main Beach — particularly for private pontoons and the South Stradbroke landings. Local operators plan around it; that is the value of a local skipper over a hire boat.
